Southern European Energy Corridor: Status, Prospects and Geopolitics

New pipelines are carrying natural gas and oil from the Caspian and Russia to Turkey and beyond to Europe. In this southern European landscape, pipeline proposals like Nabucco and South Stream have given way to more focused initiatives, including the Southern Corridor Pipeline and a newly proposed “Turkish Stream” to parallel the Blue Stream pipeline from Russia across the Black Sea to Turkey. At stake is the energy security of Central and Eastern Europe, which historically have depended almost entirely on Russia for their energy supplies. more

A Global Problem: the European Parliament’s Effort to Combat Tax Inversion

Legislators on both sides of the Atlantic have expressed growing concern about tax inversion and its impact on both investment and tax revenues. In recent years, the practice has been the subject of heated public debate both in the US and in the European Union. In February 2015, following public and political interest in advanced tax ruling practices in Member States, the European Parliament set up the TAXE committee. Alain Lamassoure, Chairman of the TAXE committee, will speak about this unique initiative of the European Parliament and of the need of transatlantic cooperation in this field. more
