Como quiera que sea, lo cierto es que Felipe González debe estar quitándole el sueño a Maduro. Con 73 años de edad resulta ser, pese los escándalos que sufrió en su gobierno, una figura casi mítica en la política del mundo hispanohablante. Gobernó entre 1982 y 1996, lapso en el cual metió de lleno a España en la Unión Europea y en la Otan, por lo cual se le considera uno de los grandes constructores de la integración del Viejo Continente. Y cuenta con un factor que le da aún más autoridad. Como le dijo a SEMANA Cynthia Arnson, directora del Programa Latinoamericano del Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, “Felipe González es una figura clave de la izquierda democrática con reconocimiento mundial.  Y que Maduro llame a González golpista muestra su propio aislamiento y radicalismo. El sistema de justicia venezolano se ha vuelto altamente politizado, y tal vez sea incapaz de ser imparcial. Pero tener un defensor como Felipe González asegura que la mirada del mundo estará puesta sobre cualquier eventual juicio”.
