Call for Papers “International Forum for Postdoctoral Scholars in Cold War International History Studies"

Since the end of the Cold War, “New Cold War History” has become a rising field of the international scholarly community, which reconsiders the history of the Cold War within completely new temporal and spatial frames.  Informed by the methodology of this “New Cold War History,” in recent years Chinese scholars of Cold War history have increasingly refined their scholarly concerns and enhanced their mastery of multinational and multi-archival information. The study of Cold War history in China has reached a level of new height: in 2001 the Center for Cold War International History Studies was set up in East China Normal University and has ever since stood as the sole academic establishment in China focusing on Cold War historical research; the rank of researchers in this field has expanded rapidly; a scholarly debate over “Chinese perspective” of the Cold War has appeared; and the study of the Cold War has functioned as one of the disciplines in China that have the closest and most frequent exchanges with international scholarly circles.

To foster the growth of emerging talents in conducting advanced research in Cold War history in China, East China Normal University will hold an “International Forum for Postdoctoral Scholars in Cold War International History Studies,” which is part of the overall arrangement of the 2013 Chinese Academic Forum for Postdoctoral Scholars and is cosponsored by the National Office of Postdoctoral Administration, Chinese Science Foundation for Postdoctoral Research, and Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Human Resources and Social Maintenance.  The forum will be in effect from October 29 to November 1, 2013, and the venue will be the East China Normal University campus at the Northern Zhongshan Road (Zhongshan Beilu), Shanghai.  The forum will focus on the theme of “Cold War international history.”  Its goal is to provide Chinese and foreign postdoctoral scholars in the field with an opportunity to learn about cutting-edge researches, expand their own scholarly vistas, and carry out in-depth dialogs.  The forum will feature speeches by leading scholars, panel discussions, commentaries by specialists, and open exchanges with the audience.  The organizing details are the following:
