Canada Institute Internship - Spring Semester

The Canada Institute at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars seeks a qualified part-time intern each semester with an interest in, coursework related to, or experience working on Canadian policy topics and Canada-U.S. issues.

Fall Internship: July 15
Spring Internship: November 15
Summer Internship: April 15


Internship Description
Internships with the Canada Institute are designed to provide the individuals selected with the opportunity for practical experience in an environment that successfully mixes academic study with public policy. Interns will gain valuable experience in a variety of projects such as conference organization, library and Internet research, assistance with the preparation of publications, and administrative assignments in support of program and Center activities. 

Interns assist with all aspects of the Canada Institute’s day-to-day operations and programming. Sample duties include but are not limited to:

  • Researching potential speakers and participants for Canada Institute events;
  • Assisting Canada Institute staff in preparing for public events, including managing mailing lists, responses to events, and room setup
  • Maintaining the program’s contact database
  • Editing and proofreading written materials
  • Updating and editing the program’s website
  • Other administrative duties as assigned

Eligibility Requirements
Successful applicants should have strong research and/or administrative skills, be detail-oriented, be able to work independently and collectively as part of team; and be currently enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate degree program, a recent graduate (within the last year), and/or have been accepted to enter an advanced degree program. Strong writing skills and language ability in English are essential. Language ability in French is preferred but not required.

The Canada Institute hires one graduate or undergraduate intern for each semester. This is a paid internship, for between 15 and 20 hours per week.

An individual selected for a paid internship will be expected to present proper evidence establishing his or her eligibility to work in the United States prior to being appointed. Please note that we cannot acquire a visa for you to work in the United States.
