Conflict Resolution Seminar with African Leaders

On June 30, 2011 the Project on Leadership and Building State Capacity hosted a conflict resolution seminar for an Africa Visitors Leadership group at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. Representing eleven African countries and several levels of leadership throughout multiple sectors of society, Director Steve McDonald introduced to the group the Leadership Project’s capacity-building, collaborative approach to peacebuilding that the program has been implementing through trainings in Liberia, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo since 2002. The seminar was then led by facilitator Elizabeth McClintock of CMPartners in Boston and consisted of a mix of lecture and interactive activities focusing on communications and negotiation skills development from a cooperative mindset rather than zero-sum perspective.  The participants from the Africa Visitors Leadership group expressed their enthusiastic desire to learn more about the Leadership Project’s training program and take back to their communities the skills and toolsets acquired at the seminar.
