[...] Cynthia Arnson: “Existen fuertes vínculos entre expectativas elevadas e insatisfechas y las protestas sociales” Arnson, del Woodrow Wilson Center, habló de la debilidad institucional y el excesivo personalismo presidencial y se centró en cómo “la ralentización puede provocar malestar social y aumento de las protestas. Existen vínculos entre expectativas elevadas e insatisfechas y las protestas sociales. Esto muestra estrecha relación entre política y economía. De todas formas, no siempre las crisis económicas conducen a una crisis política. Los actores políticos y el entorno son muchos más importantes que el desempeño de una economía. La economía es importantes pero no es el único factor a tener en cuenta”. Además, Arnson se refirió a que “el auge de los commodities ha desencadenado conflictos de tipo medioambiental que los estado no ha sabido canalizar. Además, se necesitan propuestas concretas para llevar a cabo los grandes cambios.
