Sudan Update: Is the Comprehensive Peace Agreement Holding?

On Wednesday, November 7, the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, along with the Center's Africa Program, will host a Director's Forum featuring His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit, First Vice President of Sudan and President of the Government of Southern Sudan.

WASHINGTON—On Wednesday, November 7, the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, along with the Center's Africa Program, will host a Director's Forum featuring His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit, First Vice President of Sudan and President of the Government of Southern Sudan. His Excellency Mr. Kiir will provide an overview of Sudan's Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), assessing how effective its implementation has been thus far. Howard Wolpe, director of the Wilson Center's Africa Program, will offer introductory remarks and serve as the chair for this event.

In addition to his role as First Vice President of Sudan and President of the Government of Southern Sudan, H.E. Mr. Kiir serves as Chairman of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) and as Commander-in-Chief of the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA). Before his ascendancy to the presidency, he served as the Vice President of the Government of Southern Sudan. H.E. Mr. Kiir last spoke at the Wilson Center in July 2006.
