Some of the nation's leading educators, the Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellows, will gather in Washington, DC on June 28-29, 2010, for a 20th Anniversary Summit. Hosted by the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, the Summit will bring together more than 80 current and former Einstein Fellows along with distinguished guest speakers from the White House, Federal agencies, national education organizations, and the U.S. Congress. The goal of the Summit is to generate recommendations for informing and improving science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.

The Einstein Fellowship Program was established in 1990. In 1994, Congress passed the Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship Act, solidifying the program and assigning administrative responsibilities to the Department of Energy. For 20 years, the program has offered K-12 STEM educators, with demonstrated excellence in teaching, the opportunity to spend a school year in the national public policy arena. Fellows have served in Congressional offices as well as several Federal agencies such as the Department of Energy (DOE), the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). With their extensive classroom knowledge, experience, and credentials, Einstein Fellows provide practical insights and "real world" perspectives to policy makers and program managers developing and managing educational programs.
