Biography
Michael Kugelman is program associate for South and Southeast Asia at the Woodrow Wilson Center, where he is responsible for research, programming, and publications on South and Southeast Asia. His current projects include work on water and food security in Pakistan. Previously, he worked at AMIDEAST, where he helped administer the Fulbright Foreign Student Program and advised graduate students from the Middle East and North Africa.

Mr. Kugelman received his M.A. in law and diplomacy from the Fletcher School at Tufts University. His academic focus was on U.S. foreign policy and the Middle East. Also while at Fletcher, he served as a research assistant at the Fares Center for Eastern Mediterranean Studies and as a senior editor for The Fletcher Forum of World Affairs journal. He received his B.A. from American University’s School of International Service.

He has written and edited a number of publications on Asia and the Middle East, including the co-edited Hard Sell: Attaining Pakistani Competitiveness in Global Trade and the edited Kuala Lumpur Calling: Al Jazeera English in Asia (both Woodrow Wilson Center, 2008). Oxford University Press will publish Powering Pakistan: Meeting Pakistan’s Energy Needs in the 21st Century, a volume he co-edited, in early 2009.
