The Kennan Institute and IREX are accepting applications for grants to U.S. junior scholars to participate in the 2005 Asia Regional Policy Symposium. The application deadline has been extended to 30 November 2004.

December 2004 Short-term Grant Competition Suspended

The December 2004 Short-term grant competition has been suspended. The Kennan Institute will hold competitions for Short-term grants in September 2004, March 2005, June 2005, and September 2005. Continuation of the Short-term grants program beyond September 2005 is contingent on future funding.

Kennan Institute Announces 2004-2005 Title VIII Research Scholarship Recipients

The Kennan Institute is pleased to announce the results of the 2004-2005 Title VIII Research Scholarship Competition. Research Scholarships lasting three to nine months are available to U.S. scholars in the early stages of their career (before tenure) or to scholars whose careers have been interrupted or delayed. Scholars must have completed their Ph.D. before taking residence at the Kennan Institute. Research Scholarships are funded by the Title VIII Program of the U.S. Department of State.

Secretary of State Colin Powell spoke at the Kennan Institute's 2004 Annual Benefit Dinner on March 25th. The event commemorated Ambassador George F. Kennan's 100th birthday, the 70th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations with Moscow, and the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Kennan Institute at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.

Secretary of State Colin Powell to Speak at the Kennan Institute Benefit Dinner

Secretary of State Colin Powell will speak at the Kennan Institute's 2004 Annual Benefit Dinner on March 25th. The event will commemorate Ambassador George F. Kennan's 100th birthday, the 70th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations with Moscow, and the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Kennan Institute at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. The evening will feature a display of Russian antiques and jewelry created by famed Russian court jeweler Fabergé, provided by A La Vieille Russie in New York City, described by Malcolm Forbes as "the prime house of Fabergé in this country." Items will be available for sale, with a portion of the proceeds from the evening benefiting the Kennan Institute.

The Kennan Institute announces that Boris Berezovsky's speech at the Kennan Institute scheduled for December 10, 2003 at 3:30 p.m. will be postponed due to a delay in Mr. Berezovsky's visa to enter the United States.The speech will be rescheduled when Mr. Berezovsky next travels to the United States.
