William Taubman article in International Herald Tribune
Aug 01, 2003In its 26 July 2003 issue, the International Herald Tribune published an article by William Taubman, author of a new biography of Nikita Khrushchev and CWIHP Advisory Committee chairman, examining the controversy surrounding Nikita Khruschev's famous 1960 "shoe incident" at the United Nations. The article was informed by a heated discussion among several eyewitnesses at a March 2003 CWIHP book launch for Taubman's "Khrushchev." (See the event report on this website.)
CWIHP Receives Major Grant from the Henry Luce Foundation for New China Initiative
Jul 25, 2003CWIHP has been awarded a three-year grant by the Henry Luce Foundation to support the Project's new "China Initiative." The CWIHP China Initiative aims at broadening U. S. expertise on the Cold War antecedents of China's foreign policy and at strengthening historical research and discourse on the Cold War throughout China.

North Korea's Crisis Behavior, Past and Present
May 01, 2003CWIHP and GWCW hosted a daylong workshop that convened a select group of Korea specialists from academia, research centers, and government agencies in the United States, the Republic of Korea and Eastern Europe. Participants analyzed the significance of the large collection of documents on North Korean foreign and domestic affairs uncovered by the Korea Initiative from Russian, East German, Czech and Hungarian archives.
