October 1999 - Southeastern Europe has challenged the future of Europe and North America. While some of the region's intractable disputes simmer (e.g., between Greece and Turkey), the events, policies and personalities that inflamed the Balkans since 1989 have endangered principles for which advanced democracies stand and the alliance that unites them in common defense. If and how we pre-empt, halt and un-do heinous measures by nationalists and extremists in the Balkans will largely determine how the Euro-Atlantic community enters the 21s century. more

Du lundi 25 au vendredi 29 juin 2007 s’est tenu un Atelier « Leadership Cohésif » rassemblant la quasi-totalité des officiers congolais actuellement les plus influents dans le périmètre de la 8ème Région militaire de RDC au Nord-Kivu. Les quelque 50 officiers, souvent opposés jusque-là sur le champ de bataille ou séparés par des années de méfiance mutuelle, se sont retrouvés pour cinq jours de proximité, de face-à-face et de simulation de crises et de décisions collectives à prendre dans l’intérêt d’une nation et de ses habitants. more

À un moment où la situation à l’Est, et plus particulièrement la question relative à la présence de groupes armés étrangers dans la région (FDLR, Interhamwe, Ex-FAR, etc.), fait l’objet de consultations et de débats, tant au sein des hémicycles nationaux (Assemblée nationale et Sénat) qu’avec la communauté internationale (au sein de la MONUC et lors de la visite du Conseil de sécurité du 20 juin dernier), il semblait opportun qu’un exercice informel de cohésion nationale sur la question de ces groupes armés soit organisé dans l’après-midi des 19, 21 et 22 juin 2007. more
