Project Summary

Drawing upon ethnographic materials, analyzes the production of diverse discourses during the 1970-80s in Leningrad, and their interpretation by the last Soviet generation. Examines how the official ideology and nonofficial culture during late socialism formed the values and attitudes of the last Soviet generation, offering an innovative and enthnography-based analysis of power, ideology and individual attitudes and understandings of the last Soviet generation in the Soviet and post-Soviet periods.
