Clarence Wardell

Since 2009, Dr. Clarence Wardell has been a researcher in CNA’s Safety & Security Division. During his tenure at CNA, Clarence has provided consultation to emergency management organizations at the local, state, and federal levels of government to improve and assess emergency preparedness capabilities. Clarence leads CNA’s research efforts related to the adoption and use of new media technologies by U.S. emergency management organizations, which has included work with CrisisCommons and the National Emergency Management Association. He co-authored the report, 2011 Social Media + Emergency Management Camp: Transforming the Response Enterprise, and the first nationwide survey exploring the use of new media technologies by U.S. emergency management agencies, Social  Media in the Emergency Management Field: 2012 Survey Results. Clarence, who is also a co-founder of tinyGive, an online social fundraising platform, earned his PhD in 2009 from the Georgia Institute of Technology School of Industrial and Systems Engineering. His dissertation work focused on modeling the dynamics of competition in the humanitarian aid sector. He also holds a BSE in computer engineering from the University of Michigan.
