Hideki Makihara is a Member of the House of Representatives of Japan (Liberal Democratic Party). After graduating from the University of Tokyo, he joined the Asahi law offices in 1997. After completing an LLM at the Georgetown University Law Center in 2001, he joined the DC offices of Hogan & Hartson LLP and then Masuda & Partners in New York. He is registered as an attorney in Japan and in the State of New York in 2001. Makihara interned at the Law Division of the World Trade Organization in Geneva, returning to Japan in 2003 to join the Ministry of Economy. Trade and Industry’s International Trade Policy Division. In 2005, he was elected to the House of Representatives from Saitama District NO.5 and re-elected in 2012. Parliamentary Vice-Minister of the Environment (The Abe Cabinet) in 2013.
