Project Summary

Traces the formation of the Russian Empire from 1700 to 1825. Analyzes the means by which Russia took possession of five borderland territories, established local administrative and military structure. Planned around the integration of local elite into an Imperial elite, conflicts and accomodations between Russian and local law, coordination of fiscal policies and social control for administrative unification.
