Susan (Chan) Shifflett is a program associate at the Wilson Center’s China Environment Forum. Prior to joining the Wilson Center, Susan was a junior associate at The Asia Foundation. As a graduate student, she interned at the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Global Food Security, writing research briefs on food and water security. From 2007-2010, she lived in Beijing where she served as a research assistant at China’s Center of Disease Control and Prevention working on NIH-funded projects researching high-risk HIV/AIDS populations, including female sex workers and intravenous drug users in China’s southwestern Yunnan Province. Susan received a MA in International Economics from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) with a concentration in China Studies. She holds a B.S. in Biology from Yale University. Susan is fluent in Mandarin.
