Alejandro Armenta Mier
Alejandro Armenta Mier is the Sigamos Haciendo Historia en Puebla (the coalition is part of the national coalition Juntos Hacemos Historia, but also includes the Nueva Alianza and Fuerza parties) candidate for the governorship of Puebla. Born in Puebla in 1969, he studied Public Administration and Political Science at the Autonomous University of Puebla (BUAP). He received a master's degree in Quality Public Administration and Local Public Management at the National Institute of Public Administration (INAP).
Armenta began his political career in the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) but left the party in 2017 to join Morena. From 1993 to 1996, he served as municipal president of Acatzingo, and from 1996 until 1999, he served as a deputy to Puebla’s local congress. He also served as a local deputy from 2002 until 2005. Armenta held various positions in Mario Marín Torres’ gubernatorial cabinet (2005-2011), such as Director General of Social Participation, Director General of the Integral System of the Family of Puebla, and Secretary of Social Development.
During Armenta’s membership in the PRI, he served as the party’s State Leader from 2008 to 2010. In 2012, Armenta coordinated the presidential campaign in Puebla for former president Enrique Peña Nieto, and in 2016, led the campaign of the PRI’s gubernatorial candidate, Blanca Alcalá Ruiz. From 2015 until 2018, he served as a federal deputy. In 2018, he became a Senator for the Morena-PT coalition. In addition, he was elected as President of the Executive Committee of the Senate for the 2022-2023 term.
