Taiwan and Sunnylands: The Dog That Didn’t Bark

Hathaway notes Taiwan’s disappearance (for the moment) as a major source of Sino-American friction – at the recent Sunnylands “shirtsleeve conference” between Presidents Obama and Xi, the island seems to have been little more than an afterthought. Yet even as we seek to create the basis for a long-term workable relationship with Beijing, he cautions, we should not forget old friends in Taiwan.
