Winner of the 2003 Donner Prize for the Best Book on Canadian Public Policy to Speak at the Wilson Center

John F. Helliwell will discuss his thought-provoking book Globalization and Well-Being,-- for which he won the 2003 Donner Prize---on February 3 at the Wilson Center. RSVP here.

The Donner Canadian Foundation established the Donner Prize for the best book on Canadian public policy to recognize and reward the best public policy thinking, writing, and research in Canada and the role it plays in determining the well-being of Canadians and the success of Canada as a whole. These policies embrace the full range of issues bearing on the economy, politics, and society in general.

The prize is meant to encourage an open exchange of ideas and to provide a springboard for authors who may not necessarily be well-known, but who can make an original and meaningful contribution to policy discourse.

Last year's winner of the Donner Prize was John F. Helliwell for his thought-provoking book, Globalization and Well-Being, published by UBC Press. The Canada Institute is pleased to bring him to Washington, D.C. to present his unique take on globalization.

About the Book

Researchers and decision makers are taking a new look at public policies to find broader grounds for assessing their economic and social impacts on individuals, families, communities and nations. Provocative, authoritative and challenging, Globalization and Well-Being introduces this new research on social capital and well-being and applies it to key issues facing individuals and governments in the age of globalization. Throughout the book, Helliwell emphasizes well-being as an explicit focus for research and for public policies.
