The Mexican president, Claudia Sheinbaum, held a “cordial” conversation with US President-elect Donald Trump, during which both leaders expressed optimism about the potential for a “strong relationship” between their two countries. Despite ongoing concerns over migration and trade, Sheinbaum emphasized that Mexico would maintain a “high-level dialogue” with the U.S., aiming to alleviate any concerns and underscoring the economic interdependence fostered by the USMCA.
Trump's victory generates concern among the 2,500 migrants advancing through southern Mexico
Donald Trump’s recent victory in the U.S. has raised concerns among more than 2,500 migrants currently traveling through southern Mexico toward the US border. Many fear that his proposed immigration policies, including mass deportations, could make it more difficult for them to enter the country. Despite this uncertainty, the migrants continue their journey, hoping to reach the border before any new laws are enacted.
In the United States, 48 individuals have been charged with drug trafficking and links to “Los Rusos,” a cell of the Sinaloa Cartel. The organization, which operated in both Mexico and California, was involved in the distribution of drugs, including methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, and heroin. To date, 25 individuals have been arrested, with several still at large. US authorities view these actions as part of a broader strategy to dismantle transnational drug trafficking networks.
