The Millennial City

July 9, 2011

Myron Magnet is Editor of the City Journal, published in New York by the Manhattan Institute, and Editor of The Millennial City: A New Urban Paradigm for 21st Century America.

In the 1980s pessimism was rampant about the fate of American cities. Wracked by drugs, crime, poverty and despair many urban centers seemed destined for collapse or some form of radical federal intervention. Against all odds a surprising number of cities not only avoided massive failure but re-emerged as attractive commercial and residential environments. In a collection of articles entitled The Millennial City this renaissance is analyzed with credit given to series of pragmatic initiatives. Editor Myron Magnet describes how they work.
