Overview

On October 10, 2014, Dr. Monde Muyangwa, Director of the Wilson Center Africa Program, welcomed H. E. Erastus J.O. Mwencha, Deputy Chairperson of the African Union to the Woodrow Wilson Center. They discussed key issues in U.S.-Africa relations as well as partnership and collaborative opportunities between the African Union and the Wilson Center. Topics of discussion included: the way hhead for the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA); post-U.S.-African Leaders Summit follow-up and actions; African security, trade, and investment and development; and the African Union's Agenda 2063. Honorable Mwencha was joined by Mr. Tarek Ben Youssef, Senior Political Officer of the African Union Mission to the United States and Ms. Anthonia Ifeanyi-Nwanze, Special Assistant in the Bureau of the Deputy Chairperson. The two organizations agreed on next steps to develop a framework and action plan for collaboration and partnership.
