Full Biography

Kai Bischof is a Professor of Marine Botany at the University of Bremen and the Center for Marine Environmental Sciences in Bremen, Germany. Before his appointment in 2006 he worked as Assistant Professor for Biological Oceanography at the Institute for Polar Ecology, University of Kiel, Germany, and as a PostDoc at the Department of Marine Biology, University of Groningen, The Netherlands. He conducted his PhD research at the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research (Bremerhaven, Germany). His research embraces all aspects of seaweed ecology and physiology with a particular reference to ecosystem functioning in polar coastal systems. Since 1996 Kai Bischof regularly conducts field research in polar coastal ecosystems, particularly Svalbard. Since November 2020 he coordinates the EU-H2020 project FACE-IT (The Future of Arctic Coastal Ecosystems – Identifying Transitions in Fjord Systems and Adjacent Coastal Areas.
