    Full Biography

Professor Kate Hendry is a chemical oceanographer and marine biogeochemist at the British Antarctic Survey, an honorary professor at the University of Bristol, and a fellow of Queens’ College at the University of Cambridge. Her research interests surround the impact on marine nutrient cycling of climate change in the polar regions. As well as carrying out her own research, Kate is co-lead of the Rothera Oceanographic Time Series (RaTS), an ongoing project that’s responsible for a unique observational dataset off the West Antarctic Peninsula that’s now been running for 25 years, in close collaboration with the US Palmer Long Term Ecological Research project (PAL-LTER).

Kate is actively involved in the marine science research community and science communication to different key stakeholders, including policy makers. She has a keen interest in multidisciplinary research, especially in working with researchers across social sciences and the humanities on perceptions of the sea. She also established on the UK Challenger Society for Marine Science Equity, Diversity, Inclusivity and Accessibility working group, and is a member of the Diversity in UK Polar Science Initiative committee.
