Renán Barrera Concha

Renán Barrera Concha is the Partido Acción Nacional (PAN) candidate for the governorship of Yucatán. Born in 1979 in Mérida, Yucatán, he studied law at Universidad Anáhuac-Mayab, specializing in Public Administration, and holds a diploma in Electoral Campaign Management from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Barrera has been a member of the Partido Acción Nacional (PAN) since 2002. He began his political career in 2007, serving as a councilman in Mérida. From 2010 to 2012, Barrera was a local deputy. He served as the mayor of Mérida from 2012 until 2015 and was reelected for the position in 2018 and 2021. 

Barrera’s terms as Mayor of Mérida have been distinguished by efforts to achieve a creative, inclusive, and innovative city that is a reference for sustainable development in economic, urban, cultural, social, and mobility aspects. In January 2020, he was twice recognized as the best-evaluated municipal president in Mexico. His second term as Municipal President was marked by the appointment of Mérida as a UNESCO Creative City in sustainable gastronomy and as a Tree City of the World by the Arbor Day Foundation and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN.
