For over 20 years, the goal of the Wilson Center Africa Program has been to address the most critical issues facing Africa and US-Africa relations, build mutually beneficial US-Africa relations, and enhance knowledge and understanding about Africa in the United States.
As we head towards the latter part of 2023, we continue to build upon this year’s in-depth focus on African governance and development on the local, regional, and international scale. For instance, we explored discussions on US-Africa relations at the state level with commentary from Caleb Muftwang, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Nigeria. The insights covered in our Africa Up Close blog throughout October included Africa’s growing role in the G20, the transient refugee trend in the Horn of Africa, and peacebuilding efforts across the East African Community (EAC).
Of note, we reflected on our continuous analysis of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) as a critical component of US-Africa economic engagement. As the AGOA Forum occurs in Johannesburg, South Africa in early November, we invite you to visit our AOGA: Road to Reauthorization Collection page to catch up on the developments surrounding AGOA’s past, current, and future developments.
The Africa Program was also proud to collaborate with Wilson Quarterly to produce a special edition of the publication that features some of the most important African voices of today. Africa Matters is a collection of articles, interviews, videos, and interactive multimedia showcasing As I note in the publication’s introduction, “Yes, Africa matters. Now the continent’s leaders and the world must act on these realities for their mutual benefit.” Established in 1976, Wilson Quarterly provides insightful perspectives from experts, policymakers, and practitioners. It was an honor to showcase Africa’s ever-growing development in this wide-read and world-renowned journal.
We invite you to read our analysis, watch our events, share our content with your networks, and follow us on Twitter/X and LinkedIn.
With thanks,
