Project Summary

Explores the relationship between forieng and economic policy in the West’s dealings with the USSR during the interwar years. Explores how trade between the USSR and the West was used as an instrument of domestic policy and of foreign policy. Regards the difficult economic situation in both the Western states and the USSR that led many politicians to suggest the ’trade card’ as a way to both revive their commerce and tame the Bear by encouraging economic convergence.
