Project Summary

A study of the life and mentality of the middle and late nineteenth century central Russian peasant. Examines the historical development of the peasant as well as the rich body of ehtnographic literature compiled in the mid-19th century. Uses analysis of peasantry to increase a more general understanding of the 19th and 20th century development of Russia.
