De Oxford a Tsinghua

Estas becas están inspiradas en las becas Rhodes. Estas últimas fueron establecidas en 1902, según el testamento de Sir Cecil John Rhodes, el magnate minero que hizo su fortuna en Africa Austral, y que la legó para que jóvenes del mundo de habla inglesa estudiasen en la Universidad de Oxford, su alma mater. Son, hoy por hoy, las becas mas prestigiosas del mundo. El proyecto Schwarzman, auspiciado con varios cientos de millones de dólares por el financista estadounidense Stephen Schwarzman, co-fundador y presidente del Grupo Blackstone, aspira a algo similar, pero con la Universidad de Tsinghua en Beijing, la número 1 en China.
La idea clave tras este ambicioso proyecto -cuya base de operaciones estará en Schwarzman College, diseñado por el prestigioso arquitecto Robert A.M. Stern, en el campus de Tsinghua- es reunir en un programa de magister de un año de duración, a jóvenes líderes provenientes en un 45% de los Estados Unidos, un 20% de China y un 35% del resto del mundo. Su meta es generar entre los integrantes de cada cohorte -100, en el primer curso que se iniciará en septiembre de 2016, y un total de 200 a futuro- el tipo de lazos interpersonales e intelectuales, así como el conocimiento de China, indispensables para una interacción más fructífera con este gran país.
