Statement on the Death of Alexei Navalny from Ambassador Mark A. Green, Wilson Center President and CEO
"The Wilson Center community deeply mourns the loss of Alexei Navalny, a courageous advocate for democracy and anticorruption in Russia. His death reminds us of the grave risks faced by those who challenge corruption and oppression. Despite facing relentless persecution, multiple physical attacks, and unfounded criminal sentences, Navalny remained steadfast in his pursuit of a better future for his country.
Vladimir Putin's regime, with its illegal and undemocratic principles, has once again silenced a voice of dissent. Yet, Navalny's legacy of courage and resilience will continue to inspire all who strive for freedom and justice. Our thoughts are with his loved ones and the brave individuals who continue to fight for a democratic Russia."
