The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars mourns the loss of former President Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States. A true statesman and humanitarian, President Carter will long be remembered for his dedication to peace, human rights, and social justice. 

As a leader committed to democratic principles, President Carter pursued a foreign policy that emphasized human rights and sought to build bridges of understanding across the globe. His instrumental role in brokering the Camp David Accords remains a hallmark of diplomatic achievement. We were honored to host President Carter at an event celebrating the 25th Anniversary of that historical moment. 

At home, President Carter worked tirelessly to promote social equity, championing initiatives that supported energy conservation, environmental protection, and affordable housing. His post-presidency work through the Carter Center, focused on global health, democracy promotion, and conflict resolution, is a testament to his unwavering commitment to improving the lives of people around the world.
