CloseWilson Forum - The Thistle and the Drone: How America’s War on Terror Became a Global War on Tribal Islam
March 7, 2013
On an all-new episode of Wilson Forum author, diplomat, and scholar Akbar Ahmed discusses his new book The Thistle and theDrone. The book reveals an important yet largely ignored result of the war on terror’s increased use of drones in combat zones.
Ambassador Ahmed describes how it has exacerbated the already broken relationship between central governments and the largely rural Muslim tribal societies on the peripheries of both Muslim and non-Muslim nations. Audience participants include 115 exchange students from a variety of countries with significant or majority Muslim populations.
The event is moderated by Dialogue at the Wilson Center host and executive producer John Milewski.
