Against All Odds: The Story of a Women's Cultural Centre in Iran

Goli Emami, Manager, Farzan Publishers, Tehran, Iran.

Date & Time

Tuesday
Dec. 13, 2005
10:00am – 11:00am ET

Overview

Goli Emami discussed the experience of five activist women in Tehran who started a women's center, a cultural center, and a library. Despite all odds – including incarceration and pressures brought on them by the authorities – these women continued working for women's rights. Today, the center hosts a rich Iranian Women's Studies library, organizes workshops for women, and reaches out to experts with different points of view, including government officials who come and speak about subjects dealing with women's life in a male dominated society.
