Combating Barriers and Expanding Opportunities for Women in Public Service in India
Indira Jaising is an eminent Supreme Court lawyer and the first woman Assistant Solicitor General of India. She served as a member of the UN's Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). Jaising, who became the first woman to be designated as a Senior Advocate by the High Court of Bombay in 1986, has fought several landmark cases focusing on human rights and protection of rights of women. The President of India awarded her the Padma Shree in 2005 for her public service.
