Commemorating The Revolution: February 1917

The Kennan Institute will be hosting the first of a series of events marking the 100th anniversary of the 1917 Russian revolution. The initial seminar will take place on Friday, February 24, from 1:30 – 5:30, on the February revolution. Speakers focused on specific aspects of this pivotal event, looking at the collapse of tsarism, the emergence of the Provisional Government and dual power, developments within the military, and the actions and reactions of major social and cultural groups.

Overview

The Kennan Institute will be hosting the first of a series of events marking the 100th anniversary of the 1917 Russian revolution. The initial seminar will take place on Friday, February 24, from 1:30 – 5:30, on the February revolution. Speakers focused on specific aspects of this pivotal event, looking at the collapse of tsarism, the emergence of the Provisional Government and dual power, developments within the military, and the actions and reactions of major social and cultural groups.

The event is co-sponsored by the University of Wisconsin. The seminar also has been generously supported by the editorial board of the book series Russia’s Great War and Revolution, a multinational scholarly effort that aims to fundamentally transform understanding of Russia's "continuum of crisis" during the years 1914-1922.
