Overview

Open-source investigations using publicly available materials have been increasingly valuable in discovering the truth in highly politicized global issues. In the past few years, Bellingcat, one of these open-source investigative sources, has uncovered information about the shooting down of MH-17 over Ukraine and the poisoning of Sergey Skripal earlier this year. Aric Toler, the Eastern European and Eurasian lead researcher for Bellingcat, discussed open-source investigative methods and their role today.

This event was part of the DMGS-Kennan Institute Distinguished Speaker Series, which hosts practitioners in the Russian and Eurasian spheres.
