LGBTQ+ Inclusion in the Seats of Power: How the Incorporation of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Issues and Community Members Makes for Better Diplomacy.
Overview
This program is the flagship event in our Pride Month celebration at the Wilson Center. LGBTQI+ issues are baked into diplomatic relations with the international community as well as tensions we still see every day in the United States. In order to have the strongest, and by proxy most inclusive, domestic and foreign policy leadership-- those in power need to understand and advocate for the queer liberation necessary to achieve equity for all genders and sexual orientations.
This event will spotlight some key voices in the Biden administration who identify as a part of the queer community. By tracing their career stories from the start to the present, the audience will grapple with the struggles faced by LGBTQI+ individuals on their way to the top. The panelists will also discuss how their presence and the presence of their LGBTQI+ peers strengthens decision-making. Lastly, we intend to discuss the specific issues that the queer community is facing and must advocate for moving forward.
This event is hosted by the LGBTQI+ Employee Resource Group (ERG) as a part of the Diversity and Inclusion Council
