Mexico's Election: Issues and Polls

The 2024 presidential elections will mark a milestone in Mexico’s history and will test the nation’s democratic system. Millions of Mexican citizens will go to the polls on June 2 to elect a new president, all members of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Republic, as well as eight governors, Mexico City’s Head of Government, 31 local congresses, and other representatives around the country. These elections will be the largest in Mexico’s history and for the first time, a woman could be selected to lead the country for the next six years.

To kick off the Mexico Institute's event series on topics relevant to the upcoming presidential election, Director of the Mexico Institute, Andrew Rudman will moderate a panel discussion between pollsters Jorge Buendía, and Alejandro Moreno, and political analysts Verónica Ortiz-Ortega and Carlos Bravo Regidor. The conversation will explore topics such as the size of the voting bases of the two front-running coalitions, how many voters remain undecided, and the issue areas that could sway them one way or the other. It is likely that the results of the election will hinge on the decision of undecided or swing voters. Panelists will discuss current polling data and examine the prevailing sentiments of Mexicans as they choose who could become the first female president in history.
