Mexico's Vision for Regional Development in the 21st Century: A Conversation with AMEXCID Director Dr. Laura Carrillo

Dr. Laura Carrillo is the Executive Director of the Mexican Agency of International Cooperation for Development (AMEXCID), where she has overseen both Mexico's domestic development projects as well as its global partnerships. Akin to USAID, AMEXID carries out initiatives to bolster socioeconomic capacity through educational, cultural, social, and financial initiatives. Some of its most notable programs include conditional cash transfers in Central America and expanding Mexico’s Jóvenes Construyendo el Futuro (Youth Building the Future) and Sembrando Vida (Sowing Life) programs to the region.

Dr. Carrillo's presentation on the agency's economic development initiatives will included an overview of Mexico's large-scale cash transfer programs. Afterward, Michael Clemens, Director of Migration, Displacement, and Humanitarian Policy at the Center for Global Development, offered commentary and reviewed the latest academic literature on cash transfer programs.
