Based on his newest book project (Iconic Metropolitan) on the history of the Moscow Metro, Professor Andrews’ talk examined how iconographic public spaces shed light on the societies that build them. Andrews used archival photographs and contemporary images of the Moscow Metro to document the building of socialism under Stalin. He further showed the Metro's changed utilitarian nature under Khrushchev and reveal its new meanings under other Soviet and post-Soviet successors.
