Urban Neighborhoods in a New Era: Revitalization Politics in the Postindustrial City
When urban neighborhoods are in the news, the stories seem to alternate between displacement and violence. Yet, beneath the headlines a more complicated narrative is taking shape. Authors of the recently published Urban Neighborhoods in a New Era tell us that despite plentiful remaining challenges, a past of unrelenting neglect and disregard shows signs of change. While the standing of urban neighborhoods has not been suddenly and dramatically transformed, new political possibilities are emerging locally as innovative approaches and arrangements fostered by new players offer the possibility of better days.
Please join us for a book discussion co-hosted with the Metropolitan Policy Center of the School of Public Affairs at American University featuring authors of Urban Neighborhoods in a New Era: Revitalization Politics in the Postindustrial City. Speakers will reflect on practical lessons and propose specific reforms that could make for a stronger turnaround for residents in urban neighborhoods long consigned to a harsh fate of marginality.
Lunch will be provided.
