Wilson Center Conference on US-Latin America Cooperation on the Global Energy Transition

In November 2023 in Santiago, Chile, the Wilson Center’s Latin America Program launched its Latin America Energy Transition Initiative, an ambitious project in partnership with the US Department of State, the Inter-American Development Bank, US Embassy in Santiago, the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, AmCham Chile, and private sector partners.

Through high-level dialogues and policy research, the Wilson Center Latin America Energy Transition Initiative will highlight critical minerals and renewable energy investment opportunities in the Americas, improve the investment climate for these projects, and encourage greater support by the United States and multilateral development banks for efforts to expand the region’s role in clean energy supply chains in the Western Hemisphere. The initiative’s last major event was held on October 8, 2024, a high-level dialogue in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The success of this important initiative depends upon partnerships with companies, foundations, civil society leaders, and governments committed to strengthening Latin America’s role in the global energy transition.
