Wilson Center Project

U.S. Development Policy in Global Perspectives

Project Summary

The project examines U.S. development policy in global perspectives. It explores foreign aid as a political act and its role in U.S. foreign policy and society in the 1960s. At that time, the U.S. Agency for International Development (US AID) was founded whilst Cold War struggles and decolonization movements permeated international dynamics. Against this backdrop, the project asks for the historical conditions that lead to the institutionalization of aid in U.S. foreign policy and investigates its impact on U.S. society.
