We are sorry to announce the closure of our internship program for the near future. We hope to open again soon, but are not accepting applicants at this time.
The History and Public Policy Program -- including its three projects, the Cold War International History Project, the Nuclear Proliferation International History Project, and the North Korea International Documentation Project -- hosts interns and research assistants during the spring, summer, and fall semesters. Interns work virtually for the Wilson Center and support the History Program's publication and digitization efforts. Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate or masters degree program, have graduated within the past year, or have been accepted to an advanced degree program in history, political science, library science, or related field within the next year.
Please direct all applications and/or questions to HistoryPublicPolicyProgram@wilsoncenter.org.
Opportunities for Fall 2022
Program Intern
The History and Public Policy Program (HAPP) seeks internship applications for the Fall 2022 semester.
Interns work remotely and will support HAPP programs such as the Cold War International History Project (CWIHP), the North Korea International Documentation Project (NKIDP), the Nuclear Proliferation International History Project (NPIHP), the Chinese Foreign Policy Database, and the Middle East History & Documentation Initiative.
Internships with HAPP are paid and offer an opportunity to learn at the intersection of history and international affairs. Interns with HAPP can develop a unique cross-section of skills that will help in the pursuit of a career in both fields. While supporting program staff with events, publications, and coordination with other programs, HAPP interns are able to network with experts and peers in the worlds of scholarship and policy, and get a behind-the-scenes look at a premier Washington DC think-tank.
Interns also help scholars and staff with the publication of newly released archival records onto DigitalArchive.org, getting hands-on experience with primary sources often not possible except at the Masters or PhD level. Interns can even pursue their own research and contribute to the HAPP blog, Sources and Methods, helping to fill out their growing resume and learning how to synthesize this new information into valuable analysis.
