Full Biography
Alice L. Conklin is College of Arts & Sciences Distinguished Professor of History at Ohio State University. She received her BA from Bryn Mawr College, MAs from NYU and the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, and her PhD from Princeton. Her publications include In the Museum of Man: Race, Anthropology, and Empire in France, 1850-1950 (Cornell, 2013, translated into French as Exposer l’humanité, 2015), France and Its Empire Since 1870 (co-authored)( Oxford, 2015[2011]) and A Mission to Civilize: The Republican Idea of Empire in France and West Africa, 1895-1930 (Stanford, 1997).
