Alla Yaroshinskaya, Ph.D., writer, independent expert on nuclear security, former Deputy of Parliament and Advisor to President Boris Yeltsin. She was graduated Kiev State University (Ukraine) and Moscow State Academy under Russian President (Russia).The author and co-author of two dozens books and many articles in scientific magazines and the mass media. Her book on Chernobyl was published in different languages. She is also originator, editor-in-chief and co-author of the Nuclear Encyclopedia, the first of its kind in the world, which shows the true nature of nuclear problems. She has been a member of Russian delegations to the United Nations for negotiating an extension of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and to the UN Women's Conference (1995). In 1998, she received an international Award Alternative Nobel Prize (1992, Sweden) and women's award as one of "100 heroines of the 20th century" (1998, USA).

Freedom of Speech: from Brezhnev to Putin. My Struggle for an Independent Press
Project Summary
This project is about the state of the media in the USSR and Russia, from Brezhnev to Putin. Alla Yaroshinskaya propose to write a book drawing on her personal archive of samizdat and independent literature and also her insider account as a Soviet journalist in Ukraine, People’s Deputy in the late USSR, presidential advisor to Yeltsin, and again journalist in the Putin era. SheI have fought for free speech, transparent governance, and an independent press throughout her career. The history of the media in her lifetime is beginning to appear as a full cycle. Putin’s treatment of the media more and more resembles that of the Soviet period.
