Project Summary

Regards the legacy and impact of WWII on the political and social values of postwar Soviet polity. Examines the role played by different groups during the war, the way they defined their wartime experience in terms of power and legitimacy and the lessons they drew for postwar conduct. Focuses on the politicization of experience of war within a regional context, illuminating the way a multi-ethnic empire used social, ethnic and administrative policy to confront the consequences of war.
