Expert Bio

Amy Ballard is Senior Historic Preservation Specialist Emerita at the Smithsonian Institution. She traveled to Russia several times under the auspices of the State Department. She met with students in St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Vladivostok and Khabarovsk about the public participation process for design projects at the Smithsonian. 

Ballard is the co-author of A Guide to Smithsonian Architecture. She coordinated the 2022 English language publication of Chronicle of the Left Hand: An American Black Family’s Story from Slavery to Russia’s Hollywood by James Lloydovich Patterson.
