Bertha Michelle Mendoza

Mendoza is a Guatemalan journalist specializing in political coverage and immigration rights. Since 2008 she has worked for three national and international television networks, including CNN Español. Her coverage has largely focused on human stories to show the realities from the citizen perspective from communities in rural areas including reporting on migration issues and natural disasters. Her career has culminated in in-depth coverage of emblematic corruption investigations regarding high-impact cases that revealed how clandestine structures operate in the business, government, and political sectors of the country. Facing harassment and persecution in response to her investigations into President Giammattei, Mendoza ultimately fled the country to seek asylum.
